VIRAL NOW: Netizens Screams for No to Apo Whang-Od Exploitation!

Traditional Kalinga tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od, believed to be the last mambabatok, renders her artistry on guests at the 2017 Manila Fame at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The event is a showcase of various Philippine cultural design and ingenuity which runs from October 20 to 22.

Some netizens are cliaming that bringing the well known tattoo artist in Manila is exploiting her.

According to the Facebook post of Kim Gomez which currently has 16k reactions, and over 10k and counting shares says that :

Anong ginawa nila kay Apo Whang-Od!? Bakit ganyan yung ginawa sakanya!?

Alam nyo yung mga Ibon, Agila, Whale Sharks, etc. na malaya sa sarili nilang environment and nature tapos nilalagay sa zoo para pagkaguluhan ng tao? (I’m not comparing the great Apo Whang Od to an animal, I’m comparing scenarios/situations)
Ganun na ganun ginawa nila. Binaba nila ng Buscalan para pagkaguluhan ng tourista sa Maynila? For what!? To promote what!? Tourism? Investment sa Pinas!?

Wag nila sabihin na gusto makita ni Apo Whang Od si coco martin kaya nila binaba. Sana pinapunta nila si Coco Martin sa Buscalan.

Other countries won’t understand why this Filipino culture (pambabatok) has been preserved for thousands of years, even when we were colonized by great countries (Spaniards, US, Japan). Why? Because it is In BUSCALAN, not in Manila.

Hindi ko na kailangan pa i-elaborate ito. Para sa mga nakapunta na ng Buscalan, yung hirap ng pagdadaanan mo, para mapuntahan si Whang-Od. Buscalan itself, yung sarap ng feeling na makarating doon, a place where there’s no internet, electricity, cellphone signal o kahit ano pa and yung days of stay to wait for your turn na ma-tattoo-an ni Apo Whang-Od. Alam nyo na lahat yun.

Another Netizen Facebook username ‎Gen Gen‎ says that:

I have read some good and bad feedback about Apo's visit here in manila... i am happy to see Apo again but not in this manner. I was on the "presscon" yesterday in WTC and I was looking at her and she looks tired and sleepy. Maybe because she started tattooing at 8am which ends around 4-5 (not sure on the exact time, i left already as i was pissed seeing her like she is being exploited). We paid 700php for the event yesterday just to see her in the presscon and that includes the exhibit as well. Signature of apo is 500 and tatts w/ design cost 2500. She only smiled when someone asked about how she felt seeing coco the other day.

I went to the event hoping that i will see Apo being awarded on something, sadly it was just an exhibit and people lining up to be inked by her. In the presscon they mentioned that they will assist Apo in nominating to get the award by next year.

I am just hoping that this event will really help Apo get the awards and privileges that she deserve. I agree to the person who posted "No to Apo's exploitation..." 🤘👌💕

Added note: guys, hope this post is not misleading. This is not against manila fame nor the organizers but more of us pushing and supporting Apo to have the "pure" intention of her getting what she really deserve as soon as possible. Time is running..👌
